Let me tell you about my new best friend Kim! Kim and I met while at a party celebrating Steve Ballas and his wife Linda. You may remember these two from my previous post about Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs. Anyway, while talking to her, Kim explained that she and her family own a few Italian restaurants in the Denver area called Mici Handcrafted Italian. So…of course I had to ask her if I could sit down and hear her story.
Here’s the scoop. Kim Miceli and her brothers (Jeff and Michael) moved here from Florida and opened the first Mici Handcrafted Italian in 2004. They wanted to share the family’s recipes that hold a special place in their hearts. Since the opening of their first restaurant, the Micelis have opened three other locations including 7th and Colorado Blvd., Highlands Ranch and Stapleton. Then this year, they announced some pretty awesome news. They’re planning to expand with the help from their new partner Elliot Schiffer. Schiffer has experience as Senior Vice President of Denver-based Smashburger. Indeed, this is some pretty exciting news! One day they hope to become a household name.
Mici provides customers with natural, unprocessed, clean ingredients from pizza, pasta, and gelato. Kim hand-selects the wines they have on their menu. They offer gluten free and vegetarian options so everyone can enjoy their amazing food and desserts. I can’t say enough about this place. If you’re in Denver you have to check it out! It’s a great place to meet a couple friends for lunch or have a causal family dinner.
While having lunch with Kim, I ordered the margarita pizza. It was topped with vine-ripened tomatoes, ooey-gooey fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. To say the least, this pie was bursting with summer flavor. Kim gave me a bite of her pizza too. She had the Vela. Topped with olive oil, mozzarella, provolone, ricotta and Italian sausage, this thing was succulent. Then to my delight, she offered me two pizzas to take home and try. So, for dinner that night, the hubs and I shared the Molto Carne (Tomato sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage, pepperoni and meatballs) and the DiGirolomo (Olive oil, mozzarella, gorgonzola, pepperoncini and pepperoni). Both pies are must tries!!!
Before I headed out the door, Kim offered me a few samples of the gelato. Knockout! Each flavor I tried was out of this world. Unfortunately, I was too full to take a scoop with me. So, we decided the next time we get together we must meet over gelato and wine. I’m looking forward to another day with my new best friend, Kim!
Please leave your comments below, I would love to hear from you. Until next time, cheers!
